Volk’s Farm: Now Blackout Proof Thanks to RESINC
In December 2025, RESINC supported the home of Volk’s training camps in Wollongong – Freestyle MMA – with a solar & battery installation on their new Freestyle Performance Centre.
Their new system helps keep electricity costs down, keeps the lights on in case of blackouts, and also helps support their community initiatives.
Coincidentally, shortly after the install at the gym, Volk had yet another blackout at his home – Volk’s Farm. Having to rely on a noisy and inconsistent generator for backup power, the conversation about electricity bills and energy independence came to a head.
“Our power bills are sky high up here – and we’re pretty remote, so relying on town power with the risk of blackouts just didn’t make sense – we had to do something about it.”
Joe Lopez, Volk’s head coach of well over a decade, and owner of Freestyle MMA put him on to RESINC, and the process of custom designing a system kicked off.

RESINC’s approach starts with gaining an understanding of where the customer is at and what they want to achieve.
We assess electricity bills for usage patterns, discuss and learn details of the property , and importantly, seek to truly understand what’s important to each unique customer and their home.
Custom-designing a solution specific to Volk’s Farm was not straightforward. With the remote nature of the property and the grid connection type, a bespoke solution came together that would help not only knock out their power bills, but also protect them from the next blackout to hit the area.
The system that RESINC installed is a 24kW rooftop system paired with 54.4kWh’s of FranklinWH battery storage providing instantaneous blackout protection and backup power.
