Commercial Virtual Power Plants (VPP)

Turning Energy Infrastructure into Income

At RESINC Solar & Batteries, we help Australian businesses transform their energy systems into revenue-generating assets through Commercial Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) — an advanced solution that connects your energy infrastructure to wider market opportunities.

Whether your business has solar and battery systems already installed, or you’re just starting your energy transition, participating in a VPP can unlock significant financial and operational value — even if you can’t install solar.

What is a commercial VPP?

Virtual Power Plant is a network of distributed energy resources — like solar systems, battery storage, and smart energy devices — connected via intelligent software to operate as a unified energy asset.

When your business joins a VPP, your system can:

  • Discharge stored battery power back to the grid during high-demand periods

  • Provide energy back to the market when prices peak

  • Respond to grid stabilisation requests in real time

  • Receive financial compensation for supporting the broader energy network

It’s like turning your business into a mini power station — one that gets paid for helping keep the grid stable, reliable, and renewable-ready.

How it works – behind the scenes
What is a commercial VPP

How it works – behind the scenes

  1. Battery Charging:
Your on-site battery stores excess solar energy (or off-peak grid energy if you don’t have solar).

  2. Smart Monitoring:
Advanced software constantly monitors your energy usage, grid demand, and market pricing in real time.

  3. Grid Response:
When there’s high demand or market opportunity, the VPP platform will automatically dispatch stored energy from your battery to the grid.

  4. Revenue Generation:
Your business receives payment for each kWh exported or demand response service provided — a new income stream on top of your energy savings.

  5. Grid Benefit, Business Benefit:
While supporting grid reliability, your business benefits financially, with greater control over your energy costs and improved sustainability performance.

No solar? You can still participate

Even if your site cannot install solar — due to roof limitations, lease constraints, or structural issues — you can still participate in a Commercial VPP by installing a battery system alone.

Here’s how:

  • Your battery can be charged during off-peak hours when energy rates are low.

  • That stored energy can then be sold back to the grid at peak market prices.

  • You receive financial rewards for supporting the network — with or without solar generation.

This makes VPPs an excellent solution for tenants, strata-titled buildings, or space-constrained sites that want to generate revenue and reduce costs without solar panels.
